Description

This comprehensive refresher course is designed to support assessors in successfully renewing their Assessment Practising Certificate (APC). It provides an up-to-date review of the key professional standards, assessment principles, and ethical guidelines required for maintaining competence and credibility in specialist assessment practice.

Across four structured hours—plus an additional half-hour on professional development documentation—the course systematically revisits all fifteen APC criteria. Participants will review confidentiality and ethical responsibilities, cognitive processing, and the selection of appropriate assessment materials. They will then consolidate their understanding of test administration, scoring, statistical interpretation, and data analysis.

Learning outcomes

Further sessions explore qualitative analysis, consistent and accurate reporting, diagnostic reasoning, and the identification of specific learning difficulties (SpLD). The final section focuses on making meaningful recommendations, considering accessibility, and reflecting on the wider impact of assessment.

The course concludes with practical guidance on completing a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) log and avoiding common pitfalls during the renewal process—ensuring participants are fully prepared for successful APC renewal
