Frequently asked questions

This programme is designed for Dyslexia Assessors who are renewining their SASC Assessment Practising Certificate (APC). It is particularly suitable for those who feel unsure about interpreting statistics, understanding the marking criteria, or writing reports to the required standard.

The programme is delivered in a blended format. You will have access to a series of on-demand video modules, which you can watch at your own pace, together with three hours of one-to-one mentoring with Sarah Beard.

You will have six months to complete the programme, including both the video modules and the mentoring sessions.

The programme includes three hours of one-to-one mentoring. This can be taken as three one-hour sessions or divided into shorter sessions by arrangement.

All video modules must be completed in order to qualify for the five hours of SASC-authorised CPD certification.

The video modules cover:

  • Common report writing mistakes

  • Understanding statistics

  • Interpreting CTOPP, TOWRE and TOMAL data

  • Understanding WIAT-3 statistical data

  • Understanding Test of Dyslexia (TOD) statistical data

  • The APC marking criteria

On successful completion of all video modules and the three hours of mentoring, you will receive a certificate for five hours of SASC-authorised CPD.

The five certificated CPD hours include both the on-demand training and the three hours of mentoring.

The mentoring sessions are entirely personalised and can focus on report writing, statistical interpretation, understanding feedback from markers, or any other aspect of the APC process. Sarah can review reports that you have written as part of your assessment work and provide feedback during the mentoring sessions.

Please note that we cannot review or advise on the actual report you intend to submit for your APC.

This programme is ideal if your submission has been referred and you would like support to understand the feedback and make the necessary amendments.

All mentoring sessions must be used within the six-month access period.

It is also suitable for experienced assessors who would like to refresh their understanding of current SASC expectations and report writing standards.

Your mentoring sessions can include detailed feedback on reports you have written as part of your day-to-day assessment work, with practical guidance on how to strengthen your report writing. Feedback is provided live during a one-to-one Zoom session.  Please note that Sarah cannot review the final report you intend to submit as part of your APC portfolio.

Once you enrol, you will receive instructions on how to schedule your one-to-one mentoring sessions at times convenient to you.

If you are hoping to arrange your mentoring within the first two months of the programme, it is advisable to contact Sarah before enrolling to check availability.

You will be able to attend a monthly drop-in question and answer session. For more in-depth discussions, you can use part of your three APC mentoring hours.

The programme is delivered by Sarah Beard, a dyslexia specialist assessor, tutor and trainer with over 30 years of experience in the field of Specific Learning Difficulties and extensive experience supporting assessors through the APC process.

Sarah offers standalone one-to-one mentoring for assessors. Please note that this mentoring is not SASC-authorised and any CPD undertaken would count as supplementary rather than core SASC-authorised CPD.
