Developmental Coordination Disorder, also known as Dyspraxia, is a common yet serious lifelong condition affecting movement and coordination in individuals of all ages, with symptoms present from childhood. This course will explore how psychologists and specialist teacher assessors can investigate the possibility of DCD/Dyspraxia in both the pre- and post- 16 age groups in accordance with updated SASC guidance and with reference to the SASC 2025 report format.

Description
Course Description
This course will equip SpLD assessors with a comprehensive understanding of the current UK definition of DCD/Dyspraxia, in line with the international consensus. Although there is no distinct pattern of cognitive strengths or weaknesses associated with DCD/ Dyspraxia, the course will explore how assessment methods will help define the individual’s profile and identify the specific support needs. Differences in the assessment of the pre- and post- 16 individual will be discussed throughout.
The course will explore the following:
· The approved definitions and current SASC view of DCD/Dyspraxia.
· The importance of background information, how it is gathered and reported.
· What might be revealed through appropriate assessment measures.
· Overlaps with other known SpLDs.
· The appropriate use of language when reporting assessment findings.
· Recommendations.
At the end of each session, there will be an opportunity for delegates to ask questions.

Delegates will develop an awareness of:
· How to develop best practice in gathering relevant background information, assessment and referral.
· How to report findings in an accessible and sensitive way.
· How to move the individual forward in terms of recommendations and possible onward referral.

Eligibility
Delegates are expected to hold a relevant qualification in the diagnostic assessment of SpLDs. [Level 7 or equivalent qualification]
Pre-Requisites
Delegates will need to hold a current Assessment Practising Certificate or be HCPC registered as practitioner psychologists
